Meal prep in Calgary
Built for a city that keeps spreading, and a winter that keeps testing it.
Calgary starts early and does not have much patience for cooking. Offices downtown, shift work in the trades, a large gym and hockey crowd, and a steady flow of people who have only just moved here — all of them are candidates for a week of food bought in one go. Mealforma is meal prep software that gives a Calgary company one place to sell weekly plans, take the orders, run the kitchen list and see what the week is actually worth.
Cold is the delivery problem. A snap can sit near minus thirty for a week with a wind on top of it, and a box left on a step in that is a write-off. Then a chinook comes through, the streets turn to slush overnight and the timings change again. Mealforma builds each day's route from the actual orders, keeps the customer's access notes on the stop, and records a photo at the door so a five o'clock handover in the dark is on file.
The city sprawls, and keeps sprawling. New communities go up on the edge faster than the ring road can catch them, so one kitchen can be serving Mahogany, Evanston and Tuscany on the same afternoon — long runs on Stoney Trail and Deerfoot at the wrong hour. Zones, fees, minimum orders, delivery days and cut-off times are settings you change yourself, so taking on the far northwest is a zone and a window rather than a rebuild.
Every address here carries a quadrant, and a customer who picks the wrong one can send a driver twenty kilometres the wrong way. The address saved at checkout is placed into a delivery zone, so somewhere you do not serve is caught before it becomes a stop on somebody's route. Customers choose their meals before the cut-off, skip a week, or pause while they are in the mountains, all from their own account rather than by texting you.

How to start a meal prep business in AlbertaWhy Calgary kitchens move
Three things we decided, so you do not have to negotiate them.
Built-in AI. Set up in minutes, easy every day.
Your shop is ready the moment you sign up, and your team can run it without training. Then switch on AI wherever it helps: a chat on your website that answers customers from your own menu, an assistant in your admin that finds orders and drafts replies, and recipe import that turns a pasted recipe into macros and labels.
See what the AI doesNo percentage of your sales. Ever.
A flat monthly price, and that is the whole bill for the platform. We do not take a cut of your orders, your subscriptions or your growth, and we are not going to add it later.

The menu a customer orders from is the same data the kitchen produces against, the labels print from, and the route is built from. Nothing is re-keyed between tools.
Everything it does
Scope
Meal prep software from the shopping cart to the front door.
Six surfaces that share one catalogue, one set of recipe versions and one order record. Nothing is re-keyed between them.
Storefront and customer portal
A shop your customers order from, and a portal they manage their plan in — both driven by your catalogue rather than a separate website you keep in sync by hand.
Subscriptions and checkout
The part most meal-prep businesses actually run on, modelled properly instead of as a recurring charge with a menu attached.
Kitchen production
What to cook, how much, and from which recipe version — computed from the orders that are actually locked, not from a guess.
Labels and compliance
Labels print from the same recipe and nutrition versions the kitchen produced against, at exact physical size.
Delivery, routing and the driver app
Dispatch that assumes the phone loses signal, because in a delivery van it does.
Admin, staff and the assistant
The back office, with the permissions and the audit trail a business with staff actually needs.

Questions Calgary operators ask
The city is huge. Can one van still cover it, or do we need several routes?
You decide, and the software follows. Each zone has its own delivery days and windows, and the route for a day is built from the orders inside it — so the inner city can run every week while the far south and the far northwest each get their own day and their own driver. Adding a second route is a zone and a delivery day, not a new system.
What happens when a cold snap stops a delivery from being completed?
The driver marks the stop as failed and picks a reason from a list you write yourself — no access, road not cleared, nobody home. The failed attempt is kept exactly as it happened and the re-delivery is a new record pointing back at it, so at the end of winter you can see which streets and which buildings actually cost you a second trip.
How is GST handled, and does the customer see it on the receipt?
You set the tax rate yourself in settings, per location, and a switch decides whether your menu prices already contain it or it is added at checkout. Either way the order stores the tax as its own figure and the receipt shows it. Mealforma does not choose the rate and does not file anything — that stays between you, the CRA and your accountant.
We drop several boxes at one downtown office. Is that one stop or many?
One stop can carry a package count and a meal count, so an office drop of twelve boxes is a single stop on the route with the right number on the packing list and the labels. It is not twelve separate stops the driver has to tick off one at a time, and the picking still comes from the individual orders.
Do we need a separate website as well?
No. The storefront your customers order from and the account they manage their plan in are part of Mealforma, driven by the same catalogue the kitchen works from, and you can point your own domain at it. There is no second site to keep in sync when a meal changes or a price moves.
