Meal prep in Vancouver
Built for a wet city with water in the middle of every route.
Vancouver trains outdoors in the rain and eats accordingly. Seawall runners, gyms in Yaletown and Mount Pleasant, and a lot of people in one-bedroom flats with two burners and no freezer space — they all order a week of food at a time. A good share want plant-based or high-protein, and they read the macros before they read the menu. Mealforma is meal prep software that gives a Vancouver company one place to sell those plans, take the orders and see the week's numbers.
Rain and bridges are the delivery problem. From October a driver is damp all day, and the shape of the route depends on whether Lions Gate, the Ironworkers or the Granville Street Bridge is moving. Crossing False Creek twice in one afternoon costs real time, and a run over the Oak Street Bridge into Richmond is a decision rather than an afterthought. Mealforma builds each day's route from the actual orders and hands the driver the stops in order, with the customer's notes.
Metro Vancouver is a set of separate cities, not one grid. A kitchen in Mount Pleasant will serve Burnaby and North Vancouver on different days from Surrey and Langley, because the drive is nothing alike. Zones, fees, minimum orders and cut-off times are settings you change yourself — so most operators start on the Vancouver side, add the North Shore when the orders are there, and look across the Fraser only when the volume pays for the kilometres.
Plenty of customers here live in towers with a parcel room, a fob and a concierge, and they want the whole thing on their phone: choose this week's meals, skip while they are up at Whistler, pause for a month away. The storefront and the customer account do that without an email to you, and each address carries its own access notes, so a driver covering a route for the first time is not phoning the kitchen from a lobby.

How to start a meal prep business in British ColumbiaWhy Vancouver operators switch
Three things we decided, so you do not have to negotiate them.
Built-in AI. Set up in minutes, easy every day.
Your shop is ready the moment you sign up, and your team can run it without training. Then switch on AI wherever it helps: a chat on your website that answers customers from your own menu, an assistant in your admin that finds orders and drafts replies, and recipe import that turns a pasted recipe into macros and labels.
See what the AI doesNo percentage of your sales. Ever.
A flat monthly price, and that is the whole bill for the platform. We do not take a cut of your orders, your subscriptions or your growth, and we are not going to add it later.

The menu a customer orders from is the same data the kitchen produces against, the labels print from, and the route is built from. Nothing is re-keyed between tools.
Everything it does
Scope
Meal prep software from the shopping cart to the front door.
Six surfaces that share one catalogue, one set of recipe versions and one order record. Nothing is re-keyed between them.
Storefront and customer portal
A shop your customers order from, and a portal they manage their plan in — both driven by your catalogue rather than a separate website you keep in sync by hand.
Subscriptions and checkout
The part most meal-prep businesses actually run on, modelled properly instead of as a recurring charge with a menu attached.
Kitchen production
What to cook, how much, and from which recipe version — computed from the orders that are actually locked, not from a guess.
Labels and compliance
Labels print from the same recipe and nutrition versions the kitchen produced against, at exact physical size.
Delivery, routing and the driver app
Dispatch that assumes the phone loses signal, because in a delivery van it does.
Admin, staff and the assistant
The back office, with the permissions and the audit trail a business with staff actually needs.

Questions Vancouver operators ask
Can the North Shore and Surrey cost more than a downtown drop?
Yes. Each delivery zone is a shape you draw on the map with its own fee, minimum order, delivery days and windows. A customer's address decides which zone they are in at checkout, so a bridge crossing can carry a higher fee and a higher minimum without you quoting it by hand or turning the order away.
How does GST and PST work on a British Columbia menu?
You set the tax rate yourself in settings, per location, and a separate switch decides whether your listed prices already contain it or it is added at checkout. Mealforma does not pick the rate and does not file returns — what is taxable and at what rate is between you, the CRA and your accountant. One rate applies to the order, so a receipt that needs two different rates on different lines is not something the software splits today.
We sell plant-based and high-protein plans. Where do the macros come from?
From your recipes and the amounts you actually use, per portion size, computed server-side and printed on the label with the ingredients and allergens. Ingredient matches are approved by a person, not accepted from a model, and anything bought in rather than cooked can have its figures typed straight from the supplier's sheet.
Signal drops in the parkades and under the bridges. Does the driver app cope?
It is built for that. The driver's route is stored on the phone, and marking a stop delivered, adding a note or taking a photo goes into a queue that syncs when the signal comes back. The driver sees whether they are synced; nobody has to remember what happened in the underground.
Can we start with pick-up at the kitchen and add delivery later?
Yes. Pick-up windows and delivery zones are both settings, so a shop can run a Sunday collection from the kitchen, add one delivery day when the orders justify it, then a second zone. None of that needs a migration, a new plan or a call to support.
