Meal prep in Manchester
Built for a city of students, shift work and short rounds.
Manchester buys meal prep from several directions at once. The gyms around Ancoats and Deansgate, the offices at Spinningfields and MediaCity, three large universities feeding students into Fallowfield and Withington, and the shift rotas at the big hospitals all produce the same customer: somebody ordering a week of meals in one go. Mealforma is meal prep software that gives a Manchester company one place to sell those plans, take the orders and see the week's numbers.
Getting around is most of the work. The inner ring road and the Mancunian Way carry everything, Oxford Road is closed to through traffic for much of the day, and city-centre roadworks move about from one month to the next. In town the drop is a flat in a converted mill with an entry phone; in Fallowfield it is a shared student house where nobody answers the first time. Mealforma builds the day's route from the actual orders and hands the driver the stops in order with the customer's notes.
Greater Manchester is ten boroughs, not one town. A kitchen in Openshaw can reasonably serve Salford, Stockport, Bolton and Altrincham, but not on the same run. Delivery zones, fees, cut-off times and delivery windows are settings you change yourself, so most operators here start with the city and the southern suburbs, then add a Bolton or an Oldham round when the orders carry it. That is a zone and a delivery window, not a new system.
Student demand runs on terms. It arrives in late September, holds through the exam weeks, and thins out for most of the summer, so a Manchester operator wants to stop and start again without losing the customer. Subscriptions can be skipped or paused from the customer's own account, and the plan that is quiet in July is the same plan that fills again in October. Nothing is deleted and rebuilt; the customer picks up where they left off.

How to start a meal prep business in the United KingdomWhy Manchester operators move
Three things we decided, so you do not have to negotiate them.
Built-in AI. Set up in minutes, easy every day.
Your shop is ready the moment you sign up, and your team can run it without training. Then switch on AI wherever it helps: a chat on your website that answers customers from your own menu, an assistant in your admin that finds orders and drafts replies, and recipe import that turns a pasted recipe into macros and labels.
See what the AI doesNo percentage of your sales. Ever.
A flat monthly price, and that is the whole bill for the platform. We do not take a cut of your orders, your subscriptions or your growth, and we are not going to add it later.
See pricingOne system, from the shopping cart to the driver.
The menu a customer orders from is the same data the kitchen produces against, the labels print from, and the route is built from. Nothing is re-keyed between tools.
Everything it does
Scope
Meal prep software from the shopping cart to the front door.
Six surfaces that share one catalogue, one set of recipe versions and one order record. Nothing is re-keyed between them.
Storefront and customer portal
A shop your customers order from, and a portal they manage their plan in — both driven by your catalogue rather than a separate website you keep in sync by hand.
Subscriptions and checkout
The part most meal-prep businesses actually run on, modelled properly instead of as a recurring charge with a menu attached.
Kitchen production
What to cook, how much, and from which recipe version — computed from the orders that are actually locked, not from a guess.
Labels and compliance
Labels print from the same recipe and nutrition versions the kitchen produced against, at exact physical size.
Delivery, routing and the driver app
Dispatch that assumes the phone loses signal, because in a delivery van it does.
Admin, staff and the assistant
The back office, with the permissions and the audit trail a business with staff actually needs.

Questions Manchester operators ask
Can we run one round for the city centre and another for the southern suburbs?
Yes. Each area you deliver to is a zone with its own delivery days, delivery windows, minimum order and fee, and the route for a day is built from the orders in those zones. A Tuesday city round and a Thursday Didsbury-to-Stockport round are two routes on one catalogue, each with its own driver and its own stop order, rather than one long list somebody splits by hand.
Our student orders fall away over the summer. Can subscriptions stop and start again?
Yes. A customer can skip a week or pause a subscription from their own account, and start it again later without rebuilding anything. The plan, the address and the order history stay put, so the September restart is the same customer rather than a new one. You can also set your own rules for how far ahead a skip or a pause has to be made.
Can we set VAT ourselves?
Not per product — and it is better you know that before you sign up. You set one VAT rate for the location and choose whether your shown prices include it or it is added at checkout; that is what appears on the order and the invoice. If your accountant needs two different treatments on one receipt, the software does not split it today. We do not decide your VAT position and this is not tax advice.
What goes on the label, and where does it come from?
Each meal has a recipe version, and that version carries its ingredients and its allergens. The label prints from the version the kitchen actually produced against, at the label's real physical size, so a recipe change reaches the label without anyone retyping it. What has to appear on a label you sell, and whether it satisfies Natasha's Law, is decided by you and your environmental health officer — the software's job is that the printed label and the cooked batch never disagree.
We deliver to student houses where nobody answers. Can the driver record what happened?
Yes. The driver app shows each stop with the customer's access notes, and the driver marks the stop delivered, takes a photo, or records that nobody came to the door. That sits on the order afterwards, so when somebody rings on Wednesday to say the box never arrived, you can see the time, the outcome and the photo instead of guessing.
